Photo Competition 2021

Published by Morley Ramblers on

Lockdown, social distancing, wearing masks, taking a lateral rapid flow test were just some of the components that made holding this year’s annual photographic competition social at Morley College less straightforward. After having had to cancel the original date at the end of February we were eventually able to go ahead on Friday 11 June, albeit with various restrictions still in place. For example, we couldn’t have our usual buffet fare which is an important social part, alongside the viewing of the images and getting the judge’s comments on his chosen finalists and the overall winning picture.

Considering that most of 2020, the year during which the photos had to be taken, was beset with restrictions as to where and how far people could travel, thirteen entrants took part and submitted a total of 155 images across five categories. These were again judged by Steve Mepsted, Programme Manager – Digital Media and Photography at Morley College. On the day of the event out of the 20 members booked 16 managed to attend. Unfortunately, our judge had to pull out at short notice. Nonetheless, those who were there made the best of the situation and enjoyed viewing the images. We hope very much that we can return to our usual ways and time schedule for next year’s event.

The images below show all the winners and Highly Commended pictures in each of the five categories:  A, Landscape & Scenery; B, Flora & Fauna; C, People; D, Buildings & Art and E, Special Subject (this year, ‘Neighbourhood’). The winner of the ‘Maria Lee’ prize, for the best in all categories was Sue C for ‘Waiting Game Margate’, which also won the ‘Neighbourhood category.
