Holmwood to Wotton Hatch via Leith Hill Tower, 19 Sep

Published by Morley Ramblers on

Train: Return train ticket London to Holmwood. Train leaves Victoria at 9.41, leaves Clapham Junction at 9.48, arrives Holmwood 10,47. The return journey will be made from Dorking Rail Station.

Loos. Please use loo on the train; otherwise al fresco till Wotton.

The Walk: This is an 8-9 mile walk from Holmwood Station (Surrey) steeply up to Leith Hill Tower (highest point in the South East), and then down through Wotton Common and parts of the Wotton Estate to Wotton on the A 25, where we will catch the bus back to Dorking Station. The final part of the climb up to the Leith Hill Tower is a bit challenging though short, and sticks are recommended (and perhaps a slight stiff upper lip for those who suffer from vertigo), though the path is of course safe.

Lunch: As for eats, lunchtime stop at Leith Hill tower, where there is a kiosk serving snacks (eg pasties etc), cakes, hot and cold drinks. Or bring a picnic. I think sometimes the Tower itself is open for viewing. After the walk, the Wotton Hatch pub is open for tea. We catch the 32 bus opposite the pub at 02 minutes past the hour.

At the moment the weather is forecast to be sunny and 19C.
