Hammersmith to Barnes, 7 Feb

Published by Morley Ramblers on

Meet at 10.30am at Hammersmith underground station (Piccadilly & District Lines NOT the station across the road); we will gather near the florist and ticket machines. The first part of the walk is straight out of the town and down to the river near Hammersmith Bridge.

The walk: 6 miles with optional 2-mile extension. (NB this is a change from the original programme.)

Morning: As Fulham Football Club have recently reopened the Thames Path, following the completion of the new Fulham Pier complex, the walk will head in this direction rather than going down towards Chiswick. There will be time to see Fulham Palace and explore the huge walled garden and grounds before reaching Putney Bridge.

Lunch: At St Mary’s Church Cafe at Putney Bridge. It is newly refurbished and there is space outside for those who wish to picnic. There are nearby pubs and other cafes in Putney High Street plus a Farmers Market outside the church.

Afternoon: We will be heading back along the opposite river bank. Fulham are playing at home from 3pm so it will be a bit noisy! And there are likely to be muddy stretches on this side of the river.

Drop out options

1. Putney Bridge at lunch time via nearby East Putney Station (District Line) or various buses.

2. The Wetland Centre mid afternoon, close to the river. Worth visiting.

3. Hammersmith Bridge – cross over to return to the underground stations.

NB. For those who would like a slightly longer walk, there is the option to continue up to Barnes (approx. 2 miles) and return from Barnes Bridge Station or buses back to Hammersmith or Richmond.  Looking forward to seeing you; any  queries, please contact me: Daphne (non-members please contact walks@morleyramblers.uk)
