Wimbledon to Richmond

Published by Sigrid on

Saturday 17 January [NB: This is a change from the original programme]

Travel: meet at Wimbledon railway/tube station at 10am in the main concourse. Direct trains from Waterloo/Clapham Junction, or District Line. (NB: please check your local tube lines as there’ll be some line closures over the weekend)

The walk: Morning – to Wimbledon Common via the Old Village, then into Richmond Park by the Robin Hood Gate.

Afternoon – we’ll return to Richmond railway/tube station via Petersham Common, along the River Thames and Richmond Common. If high tide prevents us doing this route we’ll go via Richmond Hill/Terrace Gardens and through the town.

The morning section is longer than the afternoon; the complete walk is 8/9 miles

Conditions: There are some up and downhills; many paths through Wimbledon Common will be muddy and also in parts of Richmond Park.

Lunch: Café at Pembroke Lodge; there’ll be benches nearby for picnic eaters.

Drop-out options: After leaving Wimbledon Common, bus 85 near Robin Hood Gate goes to Putney High Street/Railway station or, after lunch, walk with us down to Petersham for bus 65 to Richmond station.

Happy walking, Sigrid
