Richmond to Greenford

Published by Morley Ramblers on

8 November. Twenty-four Morley Ramblers joined this walk which forms a key element of the Capital Ring. The weather was kind as we walked over the Thames lock bridge in Twickenham, through Old Isleworth, Syon Park and then joining the Grand Union Canal at Brentford now a fashionable locale for waterside living.

There were still some beautiful late Autumn leaf colours reflecting in the water of the canal, passed many houseboats in various states of repair and many herons to see.

Under the Wharncliffe Viaduct

After refreshments in the Fox Inn at Hanwell the walk continues under the GWR Wharncliffe Viaduct designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel then on through the Brent River Park to Hanwell Zoo, locally known as the ‘Bunny Park.’ Then the trail gradually leads north westwards up to Greenford Station.

Some of us found a friendly café hiding down an alleyway near the station that sold Indian snacks and chai. Next time we can take everyone there! Thanks to the photographers, the middle marker, and back markers on this late Autumn meander. Sue C.
