Egham Circular, 1 Nov

Published by Morley Ramblers on

The train is the 8.50 from Waterloo, arriving 9.27 at Egham. There are no toilets on the train and only 1 toilet at Egham station.

The Walk: A varied walk mostly through woods, parkland and fields. Highlights include the autumn colours of the trees, especially in Great Windsor Park, the views across the huge lake Virginia Water and, time permitting, the Air Force War Memorial overlooking Runnymede.

Lunch: If you wish to eat in the pub, please let Terry know by email to walks@morleyramblers.uk before 1pm on Friday 31st October, so that he can confirm numbers with the pub.

Those who are not eating in the pub can picnic sitting on logs in the woods nearby. There is no cover if it is raining, but you can go into the pub for a drink after your picnic.

Hazards: The paths are mostly flat or gently undulating, except that there is a 1/2 mile descent at the end of the walk, for which stout footwear with ridged soles is essential and a walking pole would be useful. Given the recent rain, some mud can be expected.

Dropouts: There is a dropout at lunchtime either by taxi from the pub or a 45 minutes walk to Sunningdale Station, which is two stops further from London than Egham.

There is another dropout point about 30 minutes after lunch, from where it takes a further 45 minutes to walk to Egham station. This halves the afternoon walk saving at least 75 minutes. Also, it is possible to reduce the walking on this dropout route by taking a bus for part of the way.

On the walk, I will have a spare copy of a map to give to those wanting to use either of these dropouts.
