Windsor & Eton circular walk
Saturday 27 September
TRAINS: London Waterloo 09.03, arrive Windsor & Eton Riverside 09.59. Please board the train in the front 1st or 2nd carriages. Buy return to Windsor & Eton Riverside station (Please DO NOT buy a ticket to Windsor Central station as this is on a different line and tickets are not interchangeable and the walk does not start from that station). Anyone not travelling from central London could check best local station to board the train.
THE WALK: The walk is on the flat and no stiles, approx. 8 miles. The morning is shorter than the afternoon. We’ll start via Eton towards Eton Wick and then along the Jubilee River which is designated a wetland area and the afternoon will eventually take us along the Thames path.
LUNCH: In Dorney at The Palmer Arms pub – I’ve booked eight places for lunch eaters only; if weather good, picnic can be consumed before leaving the Jubilee River (a couple of picnic tables available), from there it’ll be 15 mins to the pub for drinks. It’d be helpful to have an idea before the Saturday of how many plan to eat in the pub.
Early drop-out: According to the website Bustimes.org, there is an hourly bus service No.15 indicated on Saturdays from Dorney to Slough; from bus stop outside the Palmer Arms pub leaving at 12.45 or 13.45, arriving at a stop in Eton High Street/Eton College about 13 mins later. From there it’s a walk (approx. 15 mins) back to Windsor & Eton Riverside station.
Back in Windsor, there’ll be various options for refreshment before returning. Direct trains from Windsor & Eton Riverside to London Waterloo are half-hourly (i.e. 20 and 50 mins past the hour).
Happy walking
