Benfleet Circular, 13 Sep

Train: We will take the 09:15 Shoeburyness train from Liverpool Street.  Buy tickets to Benfleet. Freedom Pass holders can book tickets from the boundary of Zone 6 (Upminster) which is slightly cheaper. 

Members wishing to drop out at lunchtime should book tickets to Leigh-on-Sea. 

We will arrive at Benfleet at 10:00 not 10:30 as  in the programme. 

The Walk: It is a 9 mile walk. The route is undulating in the morning and completely flat in the afternoon. The going is quite good in most places. There are no stiles. 

For members that haven’t been on the walk before,  the highlights are the picturesque fishing port at Leigh, the ruins at Hadleigh Castle and the views across the Thames Estuary. 

Lunch: is at Old Leigh where there is a wide choice food in its pubs, restaurants and cafes. Members will have time to explore the old village and to visit its museum.
