Bishopstone to East Dean, 23 Aug
Train: Victoria 8.24, change Lewes – arr 9.26, leave 9.30; arr Bishopstone 9.45.
From Victoria station please sit at the front of the fifth carriage from the rear of the train. This is so we arrive as close as possible to the stairs at Lewes. Four mins only transfer. Hold on to the railings. Possibility of a young walkers’ stampede on the stairs.
Walk along Bishopstone promenade to Seaford (public loos behind refreshment kiosk). Climb Seaford Head and descend to Cuckmere Inn (best views of all Seven Sisters). Then continue along other bank of the Cuckmere up to The Seven Sisters.
Picnic lunch on one of the Sisters. Complete all Seven Sisters or drop out at Sarcen stone and continue inland to East Dean village.
The walk will end at East Dean village for refreshments. Then coastal bus back to Seaford (Freedom Pass accepted). Two trains per hour from Seaford, change Lewes to Victoria station.
The Virtues – beautiful icon walk.
The Risks – keep well away from the edge of the cliffs and well away from the risk takers. As this walk will comprise either eight cliffs (if doing the full walk) or five cliffs if dropping out earlier, this walk should be considered strenuous.
