Ramble from Rowlands Castle, 17 May
Train: As in the programme train leaves Waterloo at 8.45 and arrives at Rowlands Castle at 10.23. Please note that there are no toilets at the station and none until a stop at midday so you are advised to use the facilities on the train. The walk leaders will be meeting you at the Rowlands Castle station.
Return trains are hourly and it is unlikely that we will catch one before 5 in the afternoon, so arrival in London might well be well after 6.
Please note that there are no drop out points.
Lunch: You will need to bring a picnic lunch. Unfortunately the pub where we have previously eaten lunch is currently closed so we will do a half to a mile detour to the pub in the next village for a 30 minute drink and loo stop, but this will not be a lunch stop as the pub is quite small and requires prior booking plus per head deposits for groups. The picnic lunch stop will be further on by about a mile/ mile and a half on the brow of a hill with pleasant views.
The walk: The total walk is 10/11 miles and mostly undulating across fields, through woods and along quiet lanes. There are few if any stiles. There is a steep path down to the pub stop that we then have to climb back up and one further steep climb in the afternoon.
There is unlikely to be any mud to speak of unless it rains a lot before Saturday which it isn’t predicted to do, but sturdy footwear is advisable.
Leaders: Linda and Chris
