Egham to Windsor, 24 Feb

Published by Morley Ramblers on

Unfortunately, this walk has had to be adapted again as part of the planned route is under water! Train information is the same but please note that we have not and will not have time to recce part of it recently, although we have walked it before, so bear with us! The walk is now 9 – 10 miles.

Train : Waterloo 9.20 am.  Arrive Egham 9.57. You will need to buy single tickets as Egham and Windsor are on different lines. The final destination of the train to Egham is Reading. Chris and I will meet you at Egham station. Return trains can be taken from either Windsor and Eton Riverside to Waterloo or from Windsor and Eton Central, changing at Slough, to Paddington.

Toilets There is one toilet at Egham station that is usually open and there are toilets after about 45 minutes – 1 hour at Runnymede.

The Walk. The total walk is about 9/10 miles. After heading out of Egham we will walk uphill (steep for a short way at the top) before heading downhill through woods that will be very muddy, so appropriate boots and a pole necessary. We then cross the Runnymede meadows where the paths have been upgraded and new information boards about the memorials installed. We’ll spend about 30 – 40 minutes there for viewing the memorials and using the loos.  We will then head uphill past the Kennedy Memorial to the Saville Garden Visitor Centre along mainly lanes and road.  The afternoon walk will take us through Windsor Great Park to the Copper Horse and then downhill along the Long Walk into Windsor.

Please note that there are no drop out points

Lunch. You will be able to buy sandwiches and hot drinks from the Gallery Cafe at the Saville Garden visitor Centre in Windsor Great Park. ( The Saville Garden is free to RHS members) There are toilets there.
