Abbey Wood to Woolwich

Published by Morley Ramblers on

6 January 2024. I am always pleasantly surprised and humbled when people turn up for my walks. On this occasion, ten walkers joined me. The weather was in our favour – no rain following a very wet week.

Through Abbey Wood Park

It was a bit over an hour’s walk through from Lesnes Abbey to Abbey Way and then Ridgeview to emerge at The Thames by the old Victorian Crossness pumping station with views of Thames Water Crossness Sewage Treatment works and incinerator in the distance.

And on we went westwards with ever-changing skies and views along the meandering Thames. And it was very breezy.

The only great challenge to this walk is the lack comfort stops for nearly three hours. So we were all relieved to reach our final destination of the Dial Arch gastro pub for comfort and refreshments.  My grateful thanks to my walking companions, and to Virginia who came out on my recce, for making the day such a pleasant occasion.
