West Byfleet Circular, 29 July

Published by LindajB on

NB change of train times from original programme.

TRAVEL:
Despite there being a rail strike on Saturday, there will be 4 trains an hour running to Woking that stop at West Byfleet. However, the last train back to Waterloo will be at 18.05. so to be sure of a return train we are making the start time slightly earlier as follows:
Waterloo        09.20
West Byfleet  10.03

THE WALK:
The walk is 9.5/ 10 miles.
It is mainly flat along canal and river, through woods, across a common, between fields and across a golf course, with one short descent and one short ascent and two motorway bridges. There is some road walking on pavements.
There could be some mud if it has rained in the previous days.
There are four styles.
The morning walk is slightly longer than the afternoon, 5.5/ 6 miles.

LUNCH:
Ripley has a common with benches where a picnic can be eaten and there are public toilets.
We will not be booking into a pub, though there are three in which you can buy a drink and maybe food, but we can’t be certain.
There are also two cafes selling lunches, a cafe with snacks and a bakery.

BREAK OFF POINT:
If you wish to do half the walk, there is an hourly bus service from Ripley to Esher, from where it is a short walk to the station for a train to Waterloo (on the same line as West Byfleet). The bus runs to Kingston but there will be no trains from there on Saturday.

Please note that we will be meeting you at West Byfleet Station.
