Lewes Circular, 27 May

Published by Morley Ramblers on

Details of TRAINS have been changed from the original programme. Our train leaves at 8.54 from Victoria (not London Bridge as originally stated) and arrives Lewes 9.56, stopping on the way at Clapham Junction (9.01) and East Croydon (9.10). There is a half hourly service back to London from Lewes.

WALK. This walk is 10 miles long and from Lewes during the morning we ascend to the South Downs Way,  dropping down to the village of Rodmell at lunchtime, and then following the river Ouse back to Lewes in the afternoon.

LUNCH. The Abergavenny Arms pub at Rodmell is open at lunchtime. I am not proposing to book tables but I’m sure refreshments will be available. Some of you may want to bring a packed lunch. NT property of Monks House at Rodmell (home of Virgina and Leonard Woolf) has changed entry rules; it now needs booking and in any case we would not necessarily have time for a visit.

However on return to Lewes, depending on time and energy,  there is the delightful Southover Grange gardens for tea.
