St Margaret’s Herts

3rd December. A relatively gentle ramble of around 9 miles was the right time of year for this shortened version of an outing to the lovely pub at Wareside for lunch. Eight members and one welcome guest made it to the fairly early start, meaning there were no time issues for the return to St Margaret’s before dark.

The late autumn meant that there was still a carpet of leaves in the woods reached after the mile of canal side walking, and conditions underfoot were better than expected given the regular rainfall in previous weeks.

The morning route passes Morley Hall, not in any way linked to the College, but worth pointing out on the cottage name.

The afternoon walk returns alongside the river, then back via the Amwell Nature Reserve where the bird watchers recorded their sitings. Some seemed to have expensive camera equipment, but probably would not rival the photos provided by Christine M.
