Eastbourne to Cuckmere Haven

Published by Morley Ramblers on

10 July. Despite the looming clouds, a small intrepid group of us kept going for as long as the weather allowed. We enjoyed the morning walk along the beach from Eastbourne, then  up a steep hill from Holy Well Cafe to Beachy Head, followed by a gentle uphill to East Dean. There we had lunch at the Hikers Cafe. After lunch we made it to Friston Church, which unfortunately was not open (see below for a picture of the stained glass, taken on the recce). And then the Heavens opened just as we started down Crowlink. So for health and safety – not to mention discomfort – we had to abandon the Sisters and take a bus to Seaford and home. Patricia. (Thanks to Christine M for photos taken on the day.)

This memorial window was designed by a local artist and installed in Friston Church in 2002. it is a depiction of the Ascension above the Cuckmere River and with the English Channel and one of the Seven Sisters in the background. Photo taken on the recce (Patricia).
