Wadhurst to Tunbridge Wells, 5 September

Published by Morley Ramblers on

Train: Charing Cross 9.15; Waterloo East 9.18; London Bridge 9.24, arr Wadhurst 10.17. Buy a return to Wadhurst. (The leaders will join the train at London Bridge; the exit at Wadhurst is near the rear of the train)

The walk: 9-10 miles. The morning is the longest part (c 6 miles) and most demanding. There are repeated short but sharp ups and downs. Poles are recommended. For most of the morning we will be on the Sussex Border Path, going through farmland and woods. The afternoon, from Frant to Tunbridge Wells is easier walking, mostly on the Tunbridge Wells Circular Route, ending with a meander through the outskirts of Tunbridge Wells to the station. (It is a Saturday Walking Club route.)

Drop out point: There is a bus service roughly twice an hour (buses 51 and 1066) between Frant (the lunch stop) and Tunbridge Wells station. Alternatively, if anyone wants to do the afternoon only, they can get a bus from Tunbridge Wells Railway Station (Stop T) to Frant (Abergavenny Arms), then walk to our lunch stop at the George Inn, which is beside Frant Church. 51 leaves T Wells at 12.47 arr Frant 12.56; 1066 leaves T Wells at 13.04 arr Frant 13.11. (Walkers will probably arrive in Frant at about 1.30)

Lunch: Frant, the George Inn. Picnic possibilities on the Green or in the Churchyard.

Hazards: There are several points at which we have to cross a very busy road. Please be aware of your own safety, Just two stiles, on either side of a railway track. Two fields with cattle.

Leaders: Janet and Mary
