Epping Forest, from Leytonstone to Chingford, 15 Aug

Due to the hot weather the walk along the Kent coast was cancelled; there is no shade so it is unsuitable in this weather.  I am proposing a leisurely 5/6 mile walk in Epping Forest where we will benefit from a lot of shady paths.  Freedom pass friendly.

Meet outside Leytonstone Tube Station, exit towards Leytonstone High Rd, Church Rd at 10.30. It is on the Central Line. 

The walk totals 5/6 miles. The morning will consist of 3 miles from Leytonstone to Higham’s Park Lake where there is a very nice community cafe, and a picnic table next to cafe.  We can stop there for lunch.  Higham’s Park Station on the Weaver Line to Liverpool Station, or Change on the Victoria Line in Walthamstow, is available for those who want to stop there.

After lunch we can carry on for another 2 miles enjoying the lake and walking along the Ching river to Chingford. Tea can be had at the Butler’s retreat or drinks in a bar/pub outside the Station.  Again the Weaver line to Liverpool Street Station or change to Victoria Line in Walthamstow.

The walk is fairly easy, I recommend for participants to load the Epping Forest Walks App as the explanations and maps are excellent.  We are covering basically stage two and three of the Long Walk.

The paths are hard under foot and one has to be careful of not tripping on the roots of trees, but there are no stiles.
