Knockholt Circular, 4 July

Published by Morley Ramblers on

Train: Charing Cross 9.31, Waterloo East 9.23, London Bridge 9.40; arr Knockholt 10.20, which is in Zone 6 (train destination Sevenoaks). I shall join the train at London Bridge. Please use loos on train, otherwise none till lunchtime. There are two trains an hour returning.

NB: The forecast for Knockholt on 4 July is currently in the mid 20s, which is lower than last week, but still hot for walking. Please bring plenty of water.

The walk: about 8 miles in undulating countryside, through woods, meadows and some country lanes. On the recce, I needed my poles only once, on a short sharp downward slope (not everyone will need poles). The morning is longer than the afternoon (about 5 miles/3 miles).

Hazards: There are many stiles in the morning, some of them a bit awkward.

Lunch: Knockholt Pound. Please let me know by Thursday evening if you want to eat at the pub (The Three Horseshoes). There is a small green opposite for picnics.

Break-off point: Bus R10 goes to Orpington Station from a stop by the Three Horseshoes at 12.41 and 15.09 (we may not get to Knockholt in time for the 12.41) Bus R5 goes the other way round the same loop, with a longer journey to Orpington, leaving Three Horseshoes at 13.53.

Hope to see you on Saturday, Janet
