Princes Risborough Circular, 30 May
The weather forecast is currently for the mid to high 20s, but possibly with some cloud. Please bring plenty of water. Please buy it before you get on the train; there is nowhere to buy water on our route from Princes Risborough Station.
Train: Marylebone 09.42 arr Princes Risborough 10.24. This is the Oxford train. For those with Freedom Passes, the boundary of zone 6 is West Ruislip. Trains return every half hour from Princes Risborough.
The walk: 9-10 miles through meadows and woodland, with some wonderful views as we make our way up on to Bledlow Ridge. At the lunch stop at Bledlow Ridge there is a chance to make a detour to see a John Piper window in the local church. This walk was led previously by Ann Usborne, and then by Peter Harris, so older members will be familiar with it, and will be pleased to know that the many, many stiles that used to be a feature have now all but disappeared.
There are some steepish uphill sections in the morning, and downhill in the afternoon. Poles advised for those who use them.
Lunch: Bledlow Ridge at The Boot Pub. I have booked a table for seven people. Please let me know if you would like to eat in the pub before Friday lunch time. (Non-members please contact enquiries@morleyramblers.uk)
Break-off points: for confident map readers, there is a fairly straightforward footpath down from Bledlow Ridge to Saunderton Station, which is about 2 km away and trains stop once an hour. (But I haven’t recce’d this footpath.)
Hazards: Two stretches of road walking. We cross two railway tracks, involving the two remaining stiles on this walk. Please have water with you before leaving London.
Hope to see you on Saturday.
Janet
