Welwyn circular, 9 May

Published by Morley Ramblers on

Please contact the walk leader, Terry, by 1pm on Friday 8 May to let him know if you wish to lunch in the pub as it requires him to confirm numbers by then. (Non-members please contact Walks@morleyramblers.uk)

Train: The train is the 9.06 from King’s Cross arriving at Welwyn Garden City at 9.36.

The Walk: A relatively flat walk with no steep climbs or descents. The morning is just over 6 miles through woods, fields and along a raised, disused railway line, with good views.

The afternoon is about 4 miles through fields, the landscaped parkland of a stately home, and ending with woods and Welwyn Garden City.

Lunch: Our lunch stop is at Ayot St Lawrence, where we will see a Neo-Classical Church and the ruined Gothic Church it replaced. The pub is the wonderfully atmospheric 16th Century Brocket Arms. Those who picnic can then join the rest of the group in the pub.

Hazards: There is a small amount of walking on country lanes which are narrow, so the usual warnings applies that walkers should be single file on those sections.

Dropout Points: Unfortunately there are no easy dropout points. The only option would be to order a taxi or Uber from the pub at lunchtime.
