Oxshott to Claygate, 4 April
Train: Waterloo 9.33 (Clapham Junction 9.42, Wimbledon 9.49, Surbiton 9.57) arr. Oxshott 10.08. Buy a return to Oxshott. Return trains are at 03 and 33 from Claygate. Please note that the leaders will be catching the train at Claygate.
The walk: Distance: 7.5/ 8 miles Terrain: A mixture of flat and undulating paths through woodland and commons with a few short steeper ascents and descents. There are no styles. There is a short section of pavement walking to the station at the end of the walk.
Dangers: There are three fast road crossings which need great care. There is good visibility for the first two of these and usually gaps in the traffic. The last one is particularly tricky as, although narrow, is usually very busy with very fast moving traffic in both directions.
Toilets: There are one ladies and one gents toilet at Oxshott station that should be open but you might be advised to use the ones on the train to be sure.
Lunch: West End I have booked a table at the Prince of Wales pub. It would be helpful if you could let me know if you intend to eat there so I can adjust numbers if necessary. Please text or email me by Friday. (Non-members please contact walks@morleyramblers.uk.)
There is also a large garden centre with a cafe in the village and seats around a very picturesque green for picnickers.
Drop out points: There is an hourly bus to Kingston upon Thames (458) on the A244, a 10-15 minute walk from the pub that leaves at approximately 30 mins past the hour. There is also the half hourly 715/714 to Kingston from a bus stop on the A307 that we pass about a half hour after the lunch stop. This should take about half an hour.
