Princes Risborough to Chinnor by train and back by foot

Published by Janet V on

31 July. The forecast was for thunderstorms and heavy rain, which may have deterred some from joining us. But the twelve who turned up for Barbara’s walk were rewarded with a mostly dry day (just a brief shower in the afternoon). This is a favourite walk which Barbara has led before – for a combined group from Morley Ramblers and the North London HF Group.

The Chinnor and Princes Risborough railway line was previously part of the Great Western Network, closed to passenger traffic in 1957. These days it offers an old-fashioned steam train experience, complete with soot in your nostrils.

We bought single tickets and set out from Chinnor to walk back to Princes Risborough along the Ridgeway, catching sight and sound of the train as it made its way back and forth along the line, more or less parallel to our path.

Many thanks to Barbara for an enjoyable walk, and to Christine M, Howard, Sook and Barbara for photos. Janet.
