Hever to Cowden, 28 Jun

Published by Morley Ramblers on

Train: London Bridge 10.07 (Uckfield train), East Croydon 10.21, arr Hever 10.49. Buy a return to Cowden

No toilets at Hever station. Use the train’s. Plenty of al fresco pastoral opportunities along the walk.

The walk, 7 miles. Gentle, (mostly) shady walk in Kent through meadows, fields and woodlands.
No hills, only 2 stiles. A couple of short stretches of road walking. It starts at Hever station. We go through fields and pass the 14th century St Peter’s church at Hever with the  tomb of Anne Boleyn’s father. We’ll pop in if there are no weddings on that day. No view of Hever castle though.

The morning is quite short. We go on to Chiddingstone, Tudor listed village for an early lunch at Chiddingstone castle tea room or for a picnic on the grounds. The afternoon is through fields, meadows and lots of shady woods. Possible refreshments at Markbeech pub towards the end of the walk, depending on timing for catching the hourly train service.

No drop-out possibility. There may be mud. Christine M
