Caterham Circular 21 January

The Walk

Ten Miles. We ascend and descend the North Downs three times – twice in the morning and once in the afternoon. There is some road walking, mainly on quiet country lanes but one tricky and busy junction at a roundabout. The walk ascends the Downs and descends to Marden Park/Woldingham. We climb again and and take a long descent in part on on the N Downs Way for lunch at Tandridge about half way .

The afternoon starts on the Greensand Way, then follows footpaths to Godstone via ponds and interesting almshouses designed by Gilbert Scott. There is a steep climb through woodland to a N Downs viewpoint towards the end. The walk finishes with a long and gentle descent on a track and residential road to the station. It will be slippy on the chalk so sticks are advised.

I have booked a table for 10 for 12.30. Please let me know by Thursday if you want to eat in the pub so I can amend the booking if necessary.

There is no nearby shelter for sandwich eaters but the pub is very friendly and at this time of year it is OK to eat your picnic in the garden and come into the pub for coffee or drink and cake after.
