Change of 14 January walk

Published by Morley Ramblers on

Due to flooding of large sections of the walk scheduled on the programme for 14th January, the walk has been changed to the Egham Circular (which is 10 miles, but there are possible dropout points – see below).

Waterloo 9.20, arrives Egham at 9.57.
Day return to Egham needed.

For the return journey, there are fast (~40 minutes) trains from Egham to Waterloo every 30 minutes and also slower stopping trains every 30 minutes.

If you wish to eat in the pub, then please choose from the menu attached below and send your pre-order to Terry, the walk leader, before 2pm on Thursday 12th January. (Terry’s email and mobile number is on the members’ Walk Programme in Club News on this site). Non-members please contact

Those who are not eating in the pub can have their picnic sitting on logs in the woods nearby. There is no cover if it’s raining, but you’ll be able to go into the pub for a drink after your picnic.

Summary of Walk

A varied walk through woods, meadows, parkland and beside a huge lake (Virginia Water). The paths are mostly flat or gently undulating except that, at the end of the walk, there is a 0.5 mile descent but it’s not too steep.

The route crosses the very busy A30 at a point where there is no pelican crossing and there is a short section along a narrow road with no pavements and some fast cars. It is crucial for your safety that you follow the leader’s guidance about walking those sections.

There will be some muddy sections, but mostly it should be firm underfoot. Stout footwear with ridged soles is necessary for the muddy sections and the 0.5 mile descent. Also, a walking pole would be useful.

Possible dropout points

The drop out at lunchtime is either a taxi from the pub or a 45 minutes walk to Sunningdale station.

There is a dropout point about 30 minutes after lunch, from where it takes a further 45 minutes to reach Egham station.
