Richmond to Brentford, 7 January

Published by Morley Ramblers on

These are the plans for the walk on 7th January, which is a rail strike day. The walk is approx 5 miles in the morning, lunching at the Fox in Hanwell at 1.30 and a relatively short afternoon of 2-3 miles ending at Hanwell Station. It is an entirely flat walk and might be muddy, there are no stiles.

Detail:

The walk will start at Richmond Station. This is accessible on the District Line from all points East and also the London Overground. But if Richmond Station is closed, we will start at Turnham Green. See note at end, and watch for further announcements.

Please gather at the Richmond Station concourse by 10 am. We will walk across Richmond Green, joining the river at the end of Old Palace Lane. We will cross the Richmond Lock and walk on the northern side of the river towards Brentford through Osterley Park, joining the Grand Union Canal in Brentford, walking to the Fox Pub in Hanwell. We will visit the Hanwell Flight of Locks either before or after lunch depending on our timings.

Anyone wishing to leave after lunch can get the E8 Bus to Boston Manor Station or walk direct to Hanwell.

The short afternoon walk will follow part of the Capital Ring through Brent River Park, under the Viaduct,  towards Hanwell Zoo/ Bunny Park  with an optional extension around the perimeter of the park. We will make our way through a very pretty part of Hanwell to Hanwell Rail Station where we will hopefully get the Elizabeth Line two stops to Ealing Broadway.

We hope to be back in central Ealing by 4 pm where there are plenty of refreshment options.

Those wishing to head back into Central London can stay on the Elizabeth Line or change to the District or Central Lines.

NB Please note that due to strike disruption there is a chance that Richmond Station will not be open.  If so we will adapt the walk to start from Turnham Green,  so please look out for last minute changes in instructions. For this reason it would be great to know from those who are definitely coming. Members please contact Sue C. Non-members email walks@morleyramblers.uk
