Change of Walk, 12 Feb
Due to bus replacement service between Bletchley/Bedford on the delightful Ridgmont line and the shorter winter days the Ridgmont walk would now involve too much time travelling so have replaced it with a BRAND NEW WALK – St Albans to Harpenden ( no crossover points with Tony’s Harpenden circular).
Train: St Pancras 9.43 Platform B Thameslink Service. Arrive St Albans CITY 10.15
Blackfriars 9.34
Buy a return ticket to Harpenden. There are frequent trains from Harpenden to London
Lunch: Early lunch ( around 12) at Abbot’s Kitchen St Albans Cathedral. Soups, Cakes, Pies.or Sandwiches .
Bring a snack to eat at Redbournbury Mill around 2.30 p.m. There are picnic tables and cover if damp , Loos ( could be closed) .
The walk: 10 miles. Mainly flat and follows two disused railway lines ( St Alban’s Way and Nickey Line) , the Hertfordshire Way and the Ver/ Colne Valley Way
We will do the Ridgmont walk in the spring – whether they have finished the line or not!
Give it a try, regards, Sue H
