This week’s walk from Wimbledon to Richmond
We’ll meet at Wimbledon railway/tube station (District Line) in the main concourse area (not the shopping centre exit) at 10am and I’d very much like to start the walk by 10am. There’re fast trains from Waterloo to Wimbledon @ 09.27 or 09.33 or 09.36 which will get you there in time.
Lunch stop is at Pembroke Lodge in Richmond Park. The Butler’s Pantry is self-service with a limited choice of hot food (1 meat, 1 fish, 1 vegetarian) and sandwiches and cakes. I cannot book tables for us indoors and due to social distancing, they have fewer tables so we’ll have to fend for ourselves to find vacant seats but there are also tables outside on the terrace (weather permitting!!) with a nice view. There’s also a take away stall outside the lodge grounds and public toilets, or you can bring your own picnic and then get a drink. NB: You cannot eat your own picnic either within the premises nor on their terrace but there’re a couple of picnic tables nearby.
The walk is not all on the flat, it has gentle ascents and a couple of steeper descents. The morning section is approx. 5m and the afternoon about 3m. There’s a bus service ca. 20 minutes after lunch near Petersham back to Richmond railway/tube station. We’ll return to Richmond along the river. There’re several trains per hour from Richmond to Waterloo or District Line into central London.
No need to book with me, just come along but be prepared for very muddy paths and possible rain.
Happy walking! Sigrid.
