This weeks walk (9 October) Horsham circular 10 miles
Additional info from the walk leader, Mike
Our train departs from Victoria Station at 09.35, probably platform 4, arriving at Horsham at 10.28. It calls at Clapham Junction at 09.41.
It had rained heavily the day before my walkover and there were some muddy stretches. There’s a steepish 20 minute ascent after lunch. There are several electric fences to be negotiated; apologies in advance for any mansplaining on the day.
It’s not easy to shorten the route. The only option is to leave at the lunch stop, Nuthurst, and walk north about 1.3 miles to the A281. Here there’s an hourly bus, number 17, which gets to Horsham in 10 minutes. It’s operated by Stagecoach, and should run at about 40 minutes past each hour.
Picnickers can sit in the grounds of the church. The pub, the Black Horse Inn Nuthurst (www.theblackhorseinn.com) is open for lunch but is operating with less tables than usual, for social distancing reasons. Because of this, at weekends, they are only accepting table reservations from those who want a main course. If you just wish to have soup or a starter then you’ll have to take pot luck with seating. Ditto for picnickers who want a drink. There are lots of tables outside with varying degrees of cover.
Please let me know if you are coming on the walk so that we can look out for you. If you wish to have a sit-down meal in the pub, please let me know by Wednesday. (Non-members contact firstname.lastname@example.org.)
