10 July. Eastbourne to Cuckmere Haven

Booking is essential on this walk. Patricia has supplied the following details of the route.

08.25 Dept London Victoria. Arrive Eastbourne 09.49
Morning. Walk along seafront promenade to Holy Well – flat, easy walking. Uphill from Holy Well to Beachy Head. Walk along clifftops to foot of Belle Toute Light house – on the level walking but uneven underfoot. Take track inland to sheep farm and then public road to East Dean.  Very gradual uphill.

Lunch at East Dean – picnic, Tiger Inn pub or Hiker’s Rest cafe. The walk from Eastbourne to East Dean may take about 3 hrs and at East Dean there is an optional drop out point – coastal bus to Seaford or Eastbourne

Afternoon. Uphill to Friston Church which may or may not be open for viewing, then take Crowhill link to Seven Sisters. Up and down remaining 4 Sisters strenuous. Walkers may wish to bring sticks for steep descent. Descend to Cuckmere River and cross river. Flat but uneven terrain

Cuckmere Inn for refreshments. Lovely sun terrace – if I can book a couple of tables. The afternoon section of the walk may take about 2.5 hours. From there: bus to Seaford (10 mins) or bus to Eastbourne (15 or 20 mins). I will be returning from Seaford – change Lewes – to London Victoria 

Optional extension If anyone has the health and strength, Seaford Head to station will take approx 1 hrs 30 mins – or less

This is a lovely coastal walk. Many of you will have done parts of it with Janet.
